The Alchemy of Canvas
To us, art is a balance of beauty and freedom. We compose each work based on the principle of "80% Accuracy + 20% Creativity," ensuring your vision is honored while allowing for the soulful, painterly touch that defines a masterpiece—not just a soulless replica of a reference photo. To ensure consistent excellence, we have refined a meticulous methodology—from the selection of raw materials to the final brushstroke.

THE
MATERIALS
We select archival-grade materials tailored to the specific demands of your project. For example, a classical-inspired portrait requires a fine-textured canvas and oil paints, whereas a modern impasto abstract demands a rough-textured canvas, acrylic paints, and gold or silver leaf. This foundation is chosen for longevity and visual impact, ensuring the work remains in pristine condition for decades.
The Canvas:
We utilize premium cotton or linen, selected in fine, medium, or rough textures to match the required depth of the piece. Each is pre-primed with professional gesso for a stable, lasting bond.
The Palette:
-
Oil Paint: Preferred for its luminous, glossy finish and consistent color depth. It is the hallmark of the Old Masters.
-
Acrylic Paint: Ideal for contemporary works, offering a sophisticated matte finish and incredible versatility for layering and mixed-media elements like gold or silver leaf.
THE
ARTISTS
We curate our talent with extreme selectivity. The artists who collaborate with our atelier are seasoned specialists, many with decades of experience in their respective disciplines. To achieve a definitive result, we assign your commission to the professional whose technical mastery matches your vision—whether that is a master of sculptural palette-knife impasto or an expert in the meticulous detail of fine-line realism. By maintaining this exclusive network of independent masters, we ensure your project is always placed in the hands of the most qualified specialist.

THE
METHODOLOGY
Following traditional atelier methods, we hand-paint each work in multiple layers. This process typically requires 3-6 weeks of active creation, followed by a natural drying period of 1-3 weeks to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the paint. We prioritize the chemistry of the medium over speed.
Phase 1: Foundation
The artist establishes the structural layout and composition. To ensure compositional precision, we utilize modern alignment tools to map the initial foundation before the foundational colors are applied.
Phase 2: Creation
Depth and character are built through multiple applications. Using techniques tailored to the piece—from Impressionist brushwork to sculptural palette-knife textures—the artist breathes life into the canvas.
Phase 3: Refinement
Once the layers have settled, the artist enters the final adjustment phase. This stage focuses on light-balancing and tonal harmony, ensuring the finished work resonates with the intended emotion and atmosphere.

The Philosophy of HEYDA
"The essence of creativity is the ability to see things in a new way." - Albert Einstein
In an era defined by rapid technological change, traditional art is not a relic of the past—it is an evolving language. We believe that handcrafted art transcends mere decoration; it is a profound form of personal expression that brings beauty and permanence to an ever-changing world. We honor history by adapting tradition to the modern age, using technology not as a replacement for the hand, but as a bridge to a future beyond the canvas.
Under this vision, art becomes a foundation for premium advertising, high-impact branding, and asset-class investment.

THE
NAME
Emerging in the late 16th century, HEYDA was originally an exclamation of cheerfulness and surprise. It is the ancestor of the modern word heyday—a term synonymous with a period of great success, vitality, and creative peak. We chose this name to embody our core philosophy: honoring the mastery of the past, adapting for the needs of the present, and building a vibrant legacy for the future.
THE
LEGACY
Based in Nova Scotia, Canada, HEYDA is a modern creative studio built on an international pedigree. Our methodology was forged two decades ago within a reputable gallery on Saigon’s Dong Khoi Street—a historic district renowned for supplying masterwork oil paintings to luxury estates and private collections across Asia, Europe, and North America.
Today, we have transitioned that rich heritage into a Canadian-led atelier. By combining European finesse and Canadian creative freedom with the technical mastery of our long-standing global collective, we offer a level of craftsmanship that stands the test of time.

THE
INSPIRATION
I am Gordon ML Huynh, Founder x Creative Director of HEYDA. My journey began in 2003 within my family’s gallery in Saigon. In 2005, I moved to France to pursue my education at Aix-Marseille University, eventually continuing my studies at Toronto Metropolitan University in Canada. Throughout my education and the building of a corporate career, I remained deeply connected to the art world, collaborating with clients and artists on various gallery projects.
In 2015, I chose to step back from the studio to focus on a new direction in Finance. However, walking through the Toronto Art Fair years later changed everything. Surrounded by the pulse of modern creativity, I felt a familiar spark reignite—a reminder that art was not just a story from my past, but my definitive calling for the future.
By combining the knowledge and experience gained across three continents and multiple industries, I have gathered a collective of dedicated art enthusiasts. This team includes the same master artists who spent decades perfecting their craft in our original gallery. Together, we preserve a heritage of excellence while embracing modern technology to help our clients realize their most ambitious artistic visions.
